The artwork Sono persone 8.8.1991 conveys the phrase spoken by Mayor Enrico Dalfino in 1991
when addressing 20,000 Albanian refugees upon the arrival of the ship Vlora in the port of Bari
through Morse code: “They are people, desperate people. They have only us, they cannot be sent
back”. Jasmine Pignatelli's research on modular elements, geometry, and light, which was inspired
by the analytical and programmed research of the seventies, intersects in this work with the study of
reducing verbal language to its basic elements to highlight one of the most significant moments in
the history of global migration.
