Winner of 1992 Goncourt Prize, Texaco is a polyphonic novel that narrates the epic of Martinican people from slavery to contemporary, through the construction of the popular neighborhood of Texaco in Fort de France. The voice of the protagonist (Marie-Sophie Laborieux) is intertwined with the voices of other inhabitants and which the marqueur de paroles’ one. He is an alter ego of Chamoiseau, an hybrid authorship between orality and writing. The neighborhood of Texaco is the model of Martinican creolization between black slaves, Asian immigrants, békés and French people.
