The Satanic Verses has been one of the major editorial cases of the Twentieth century, mainly
because of the fatwa held by the then Iran ayatollah’s Khomeini, which has forced the author to live under police protection until 2012. This has also vitiated the book’s reception: The Satanic Verses has been read as a Quran’s parody. Actually, Rushdie paints a fresco of contemporary transcultural London through the stories of Gibreel Ferishta (a star of Indian cinema) and Saladin Chamcha (“the man of thousand voices”) symbols of the contemporary migrant as a “translated man”.
