The film tells the story of the siege of Sarajevo during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, from the point of view of a British television crew. Michael Henderson and fellow American Flynn discover one of the concentration camps set up by Bosnian Serbs. While visiting an orphanage under enemy fire, Henderson feels the need to do something more concrete and promises a little girl, Emira, to take her away from the war. When a humanitarian aid convoy led by the American Nina offers to rescue some children, Henderson decides to take Emira to England. It all seems resolved when her mother demands to have it back. Henderson returns to Sarajevo and manages to convince her. Meanwhile in the city someone manages to organize a small concert, defying danger, in favor of peace.
